Elderly people who are 65 years old or older are often lack of vitamin D due to the dryness of skin, thus should have more vitamin D, said a Swedish diet expert in a report released Thursday.
“Various studies have shown that vitamin D is very important to fight against bone disease, muscle problem, diabetes, fatness, heart problem, cancer, infection, dementia and depression and so on,” said Elisabeth Rothenberg, dietist and medicine doctor in Sweden.
She has written this kind of knowledge recommendation to Swedish food administration.
Rothenberg explained that due to the darkness in winter in Nordic countries, many people need vitamin D as a facilitating receiver of various nutrition for elderly people.
She cited American research results as saying that vitamin D is actually a hormone that there is a receptor to help the body receive various nutrition.
